Dr. Kate Truitt is a clinical psychologist and neuroscientist with a mind-body approach to trauma-informed healing. In our conversation, we dig into different Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) techniques and how we can heal ourselves using logical modalities. Dr. Kate highlights tools for noticing the micro-data points that we might never have learned to pay attention to, but are critical for our mind and body to be successful in the world around us. We also touch on how to course-correct automatic coping mechanisms and start facilitating social-emotional conversations with children.
IN THIS EPISODE, WE TALK ABOUT:
- Creating a space for yourself to get curious and explore your emotions
- Ways to rewire past traumatic experiences without having to recapture the whole memory
- What bilateral stimulation is and how it works
- Understanding intergenerational trauma and creating ways to break the cycle
- Rewiring and getting back into healthy habits when we want to self-soothe
- Why finding a practitioner who really understands trauma and you feel safe with is critical for healing
